REFLECTIONS FROM THE RABBI
There are many people who believe that everything that happens in one’s life is because God wills it so. Not everyone agrees with this notion.
A well-known rabbi, Rabbi Harold Kushner wrote the following that deserves reflection. “I don’t believe that God causes mental retardation in children, or chooses who should suffer from muscular dystrophy. The God I believe in does not send us the problem. He gives us the strength to cope with the problem.”
Let us look at some of the things that God does not do.
God does not cause accidents involving drunken drivers. People who drink do that.
God does not cause wars. People who hate do that.
God does not cause prejudice. People who are ignorant do that.
God does not build schools. People who know the value of education do that.
God does not make i-pods or computers. Technologists do that.
God does not build synagogues. We do that. (and we did).
And there is one more thing that God cannot do. God cannot please everyone.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Jack
NEWS ABOUT THE NEW BUILDING
DEAR MEMBERS & FRIENDS,
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? In a little more than a week we will be worshipping in our new synagogue.
Granted there is a lot to do to move everything back into the building: a sanctuary to be prepared for services, a kitchen to be stocked, classrooms to be made ready for our students and an office to be equipped for business. The Spring will give us time to complete the decor and to get all the kinks out. Our target is to have everything just how we want it by the Dedication & 50th Anniversary weekend on June 22 – 24, 2012.
Beginning on February 17th, services will be held at our new building at 2411 Long Beach Boulevard, Spray Beach on Friday night at 7:30 PM. Services had been held for a year at St. Thomas in Surf City and we will forever be grateful to our friends at St. Francis Parish for providing a wonderful place for us to worship.
We are not ready to move into the building completely, so until we notify you, the office will continue to function from the offices of the late (and great) Julius Robinson at 2nd Street and the Boulevard in Beach Haven. Mah jongg with also continue at the Library in Surf City for a while. Thanks to Linda Feaster, Director of the LBI Branch, for making us so welcome.
Once the office is up and running, you can visit the building during office hours. Due to security issues, we have put into place an intercom system for entry into the building. The following doors can be used to be “buzzed” into the building: Front door on boulevard, Southeast door on 24th Street, Northeast door in the back of the building (where the handicapped parking is located.
MONDAY 1 – 4:30 PM
WEDNESDAY 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM
THURSDAY – 1 – 4:30 PM
FRIDAY – 9:00 am – 1:00 PM
The builder is still doing some finishing touches on the exterior and interior of the building, so please be careful if you walk around the building.
We look forward to seeing you on the 17th or when you return to the Island.

CONGREGATION MEMBERS & FRIENDS IN THE COMMUNITY ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND
revised 1/27/12 rgv
If you ride by 24th Street in Spray Beach, you will see our beautiful new synagogue. We look forward to having our first service there soon.
Thanks to the generosity of members and friends, we have raised $1.5 million towards the rebuilding of our Center. It will be a a house of worship as well as a center of Jewish life and we look forward to welcoming members, residents and vistors to our new home.
Our campaign to raise money is far from over. Please consider being a part of the rebuild by making a donation to the campaign. We are also selling pavers to be engraved and placed in the front of our main entrance. This is a wonderful way to become a permanent part of the building.
Please download the Contribution Form and List of Dedication Opportunities by clicking here Dedication Levels & Contribution Form . You can also retrieve a form to order pavers as well: PaverformscongOct2011

Updated 10/17/11 kps
5771 is coming to an end and we look forward to a new year. We have much to be grateful for here at the JCC of LBI, most importantly our beautiful new synagogue which stands so proudly on the boulevard at 24th Street. It is a bit disapponting that we will not be in the new building for this yom tov but we are ever grateful to our friends at St. Francis Parish for providing a place for us to worship.
In the photo above, our holiday is announced on the sign outside St. Clare’s, reflecting the unity we have with our Catholic neighbors. As someone remarked: If only the world would work together as we do here in our community at the shore.
Wherever you worship this holiday, may you have a wonderful yom tov with family and friends and may you and yours be inscribed in the Book of Life for the year to come.
