♦ The Women of JCC of LBI – Who are we?
The Sisterhood of the JCC of LBI offers the women of our congregation unique opportunities:
- To make close, lifelong friends
- To help provide for the needs of our Congregation
- To learn about interesting topics
- To lead a more profoundly Jewish life
- To give back to our community
Our programs and activities add an important dimension of fun and learning for our members. Open to women of all ages and interests, we provide an outlet for the creative energy, talent and leadership of each of our members.
Commitment – it gives our organization meaning
Whether preparing Oneg Shabbats and Kiddishes for services and special
occasions, organizing a special religious service or community seder, providing dinner to an ill member or bereaved family or planning a fund raiser, our Sisterhood is committed to supporting the JCC of LBI and its congregants.
Over the years, Sisterhood has been there to help provide items needed by the synagogue. We have purchased necessary equipment for the kitchen and Center office and through our fund raising efforts have donated $40,000 towards the Capital Campaign.
But our commitment doesn’t stop there – we are also deeply committed to our community. Sisterhood has donated afghans to local nursing homes, provided meals for Family Promise and donated holiday baskets for those in our community in need.
Connection – it is what we are all about
It is the friends you make preparing an oneg at the JCC kitchen, or the fun you have playing mah jongg each week, or the special feeling you take away from a Sisterhood Shabbat Service. Sisterhood helps you connect with other women, to women’s roles in Judaism, to social and cultural issues, and to the JCC of LBI’s caring community.
Whether you want to come to an occasional meeting or a selected program – or you choose to plunge in and organize events – there is a place for you in our Sisterhood. A warm, caring and dynamic group of women will welcome you, however you choose to participate.

This is a Special Year for Sisterhood.
With the building under construction, it will be a challenge to organize events for this coming summer. We will miss the feelings of sisterhood felt in the kitchen as we prepared for an event. But we are committed to finding ways to be together and to be of help to the Center.
Please contact us with any ideas that your might have to accomplish this.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS FOR THE COMING YEAR:
Oneg Shabbats & Kiddishes. Without our kitchen, it is quite difficult to provide onegs & kiddishes each Shabbat. This is the time when members and guests have a chance to chat and it is important that we continue to provide ” a little something” following services. If you would like to bring cookies and juice on Friday evenings or Challah, gefilte fish and herring on Saturday morning, contact Vivian Fitts at 609-492-9412.
Mah jongg – Wednesday, 12:30 – 4:00 PM at the Library in Surf City. We plan t have lunch & mah jongg at a local restaurant a few Wednesday this summer .
Sisterhood Shabbat – Friday, July 22
Let’s Do Lunch: 3 luncheons during the summer at members homes.
Thursday, July 14
