Susan Werk is the Educational Director of Congregation Agudath Israel of West Essex in Caldwell, New Jersey. She received her Master’s Degree in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Having held leadership roles in the Jewish Education Association’s Principals Forum, the Conservative movement’s Jewish Educational Assembly, and the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education, Susan took a giant step forward when she received national recognition in 2008 by winning the most prestigious Covenant Award for excellence in Jewish education. She also won the JEA’s Hoffman Award for her creative G-d curriculum and the Leo Brody Jewish Communal Service Award for professional excellence given by the New Jersey Association of Jewish Communal Service. Susan also teaches for the Melton Adult Mini School and has been the scholar-in-residence for United Jewish Communities of Metrowest NJ’s Women’s Department, which acknowledged her achievements in 2003.
Additionally, Susan co-authored “Figuring It Out Together: A Program of Family Study and Experiences,” published by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s Commission on Jewish Education, and “Hands on: Enriching the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Experience,” an article published in Womens Leisure.
