THE HISTORY OF THE JCC CHAVERAH GROUP
In 2019, the JCC of LBI created a Chaverah Group with a goal to share both Jewish and secular experiences including learning, prayer and both cultural and social experiences.  It is hoped that this will provide opportunities to make new friends and share fun times together.
The group’s first meeting was attended by 35 people including couples and singles and both full-time and summer residents.  Anxious to get started, the first event hosted by the group was a Pancake breakfast in July with our chefs Rabbi Jay, Cliff Denker and Mike Babst.
As this was the introductory event, those in attendance shared stories and connections to LBI and the JCC.
In August, a second event was held: swing dance lessons! Liz Trott and her two lovely assistants from the Starlight Dance Studio taught us two dances to Rockin’ Robin and another song. It was a fun evening of dancing, chatting, eating, and, most importantly, enjoying each other’s company.
One of the highlights of the group was the visit to the National Museum of American Jewish History to attend the Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg exhibit.
A Sunday night at the Movies showing A Gentleman’s Agreement was also hosted by the Chaverah Group. Several ideas for events are being considered for the future.
